It is time to ask the Sealand Government to open a Registry of Shipping and provide a "flag of convenience" service.

Please contact them at www.sealandgov.com or e-mail the head of state directly "hos@sealandgov.org"

Are they part of the EU? If not it could provide a haven for non-VAT paid boats, if he could be persuaded to build a marina out there.

Good point, I think they must be outside the EU.

Great idea - keep a non VAT paid boat there, 7 miles off the East coast.

Anyone for a 17.5% discount on a new boat ?

Don\'t give \'Prince\' Roy ideas!

If he charges for registration like he charges for nationality, paying UK boat tax of £100 per year will seem the very soft option.

How about Cayman Islands registration?

Or Gibraltar?

I bought Yanita VAT-free (Visiting Forces - exempt), upon return to the UK set up a company in Gib for a nominal fee (yacht charter - one customer -> me) and Robert's your father's brother.

Only caveat, have to leave EU every 18 months. So that's a trip to the Channel Islands.
Easy-peasy.
