We are finally going to replace out lofrans royal manual windlass with an electric one. Has anyone done this in a Gib'sea 38? We are worried that there may be space problems inside the anchor locker. We would ideally like a lofrans tigress, but this would mean lowering the plate that the winch sits on, and the angle that the chain would feed into the gypsy would change meaning that we would need some type of roller system to feed the chain true to the gypsy. Has anyone out there done this? Any advise or any alternative winch suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

info from lofrans..

the easiest thing for solving this problem is to get photos and dimensions of the existing manual windlass install and anchor locker dimensions. then get to a lofrans dealer who will have the complete install specs on the range of windlasses available. with the lofrans, it is criitical to have the proper angle of the chain piling into the locker off the windlass.

if you wish to contact lofrans directly , here in the USA lofrans technical advice on the windlasses is offered free of charge by imtra corporation.
