First hurricane possible for the Caribbean

Here's hoping. The mast maybe was enough to one side and is still ok. Finger's crossed for you.

As the owner of a similar vintage Moody, I think one thing going for you is the massive robustness of the hull layup. I sometimes think they were designed for ice-breaking!

Who is that? Not Suzie Stanhope on Spirited Lady? If so, according to fakepoo, she and her dogs and cats were ashore and are fine.
 
Clearly horrific by any standards. NOAA predicts above-normal 2024 Atlantic hurricane season will be cold comfort (not the most appropriate term) to those affected. The old rhyme says, “June too soon, July, stand by, …..” To have a hurricane so soon is not a common event. For it to be a major hurricane must be virtually unknown.
Another effect of our warming climate.

This is the earliest that a cat 5 hurricane has ever formed, by a full two weeks. Completely unprecedented.

Unfortunately second hand masts will be in very short supply. Everybody will be after one. You may be able to build a new mast from two or three broken masts. My friend managed to get a large mast off a catamaran and cut out the broken section. He spliced it back together. A 50ft cat mast then ended up on his 38ft monohull.
There is only one mast builder in the islands. That is in St Martin. There will be a queue 2 years long for a new mast.
Many people motor up to Florida for repairs but you are into a whole new level of expense. Labour costs there are extortionate.
I am sure you can build a mast from what is there. You are a resourceful chap🙂

I guess that might depend on what happens to the written off masts. We have friends with a 40ft cat in the same yard who might get a new rig on their insurance, I could put in a shout for the old one.

In the BVIs, after the hurricane, there was a massive pile of broken masts. You should be able to acquire what you need. Any insured boat won't want a bent mast. They should come free
