My two boy's and I have just got back from a lovely day up and down the River Welland . When the tug was put back in on Friday morning the propeller I had put on was not up to the job , the reasone being the Parsons gearbox has a 3 to 1 reduction gear . Had it been 2 to 1 then no problem . Low power out put and poor steering . So next tide I put the tug in a spot so that I could get to the propeller and change it over for the old four blade . That done today we went for a nice four hour run . We ran down stream towards the Wash with the tide for a few miles then turned and ran against tide to the tide lock at Spalding .
Just one minor thing to sort through which is the rudder stock, it lets the water up through the bronze bush , this I can fix by pumping the void with grease .
Any way, a bit of wind which caused no problems , the sun showed it's self as well , so for this time of year things could not be better.
When I opened the engine up to full power Fred and Josh had huge grins, it really has some power ,I had thought around 9 or 10 knots but I should say more like 15 or there about's was easely acheived .That turbo makes a great sound.
This is by far the best way to see wildlife ,one seal and countless birds ,marshland and plenty of divers as well. One particular bird I cant recall ever seeing before, the nearest I can find in my book is a Wigeon, pink breast but proberly not as I only saw it for a few seconds .I realy enjoyed my self and the boys were both very good at steering which of course will be very handy for long runs.
Best place to sit is on top of the engine covers which get lovely and warm ,so with a cup of coffee the boys steering I sat back and thouroughly enjoyed the pleasure of thinking back to the beginning of November when I brought the rusty old wreck.

PS
I now have a three blade 1 and 3/4"" shaft 25x16 propeller for sale or even better, swap for a small dingy suitable for four and able to take an outbourd . The propeller is not new but in reasonable condition with just a little carrotting.
