First Boat need advice pls - Range 45-50fly

A few random thoughts.
Don't assume that buying a new boat will avoid problems. Experience of many boating chums is that you collect your new boat and they say "any problems, call us and we'll fix". And boy, there are problems! Quality control seems like the British car industry in the 60s.
There are so many second hand boats, the one you want is out there somewhere.
Don't worry about up to 50ft for your first boat, but make sure you get proper own boat tuition and practise enough before setting out on a serious journey.
if you take enough care choosing, your boat will last you. I've had my 435 for 16 years.

I agree. New boats have issues. We ( and all other new boat owners I know directly ) have had long snagging lists.

Surprisingly large chunks of this had nothing directly to do with the builder but he bits supplied by others ( garmin for example )

Qa is not good enough I agree, however it seems to be a case of a large amount of kit getting used to being tossed around the place. Eventually the status quo is reached but this take a lot of time. I would recommend buying a 2 year old boat. Someone else has taken the first hit of depreciation and solved all ( you hope) of the snags.

Well, I didn't realize I'm that young for a 40-50 really ;). I hope it will be going that way later and if I'll ever buy my super yacht that's a good prospective but damn difficult.

It's not that easy as it looks as I'm doing business since I'm 18. The last 5years I spend time and made plans to buy a nice 33-39ft boat but until now each year I'm postponing it. Now I just want to make sure I will buying outside the season and then wait in a relax mood for the delivery.

It will be interesting to see if you get taken seriously (I'm a young looking 37 year old boat owner). I went to Cannes to see the Ferretti 450 last September. Despite being in contact with the UK dealer prior to Cannes and spending a good hour looking over the boat, I had zero follow up after the show.

And Ferretti wouldn't let me on the sea trial at the end of the day, said boat was full and it clearly wasn't. I told them I'd flown to Cannes to see their boat and still nothing, they must have thought I was a tyre kicker!

Ferretti were really nice to me at the Paris show (unlike many others). But this is a major error on their part, you have many more big boat purchases in you and brand loyalty could make a company a lot of money. All boating ads would make you think that boat owners are very young with hard bodies and yet they recoil if they see one!
If I were you I'd buy a Benneteau, take a selfie and send it to Ferretti. These boat companies have to be nice to people at the shows or what's the point.
Ps the 450 is a really nice looking boat

I was quite disappointed by the whole affair, having made the effort to travel there. I wasn't aware sea trials were possible, I thought they would accommodate me. Ah well.

I'm going to look at Prestige 460 at SIBS, although it has IPS the boat looks good from the pics I've seen so far. And the design of the master cabin looks much better than F450. Good support through Ancasta too.

If I remember correctly, the Ferretti had decent head room in the master, I don't think the Prestige did

That was probably the Prestige 450, the 460 is a new model this year which ditches the separate owners cabin access to create more room and they've rotated master bed so it faces forward. I really like the lower helm too.

I find myself in the same boat as the OP. First-time buyer and enjoying reading this thread.

For us, we like the SS Predator but the 57 is too big so hoping they'll launch a smaller version at Dusseldorf in 2018. ;-)
