A few random thoughts.
Don't assume that buying a new boat will avoid problems. Experience of many boating chums is that you collect your new boat and they say "any problems, call us and we'll fix". And boy, there are problems! Quality control seems like the British car industry in the 60s.
There are so many second hand boats, the one you want is out there somewhere.
Don't worry about up to 50ft for your first boat, but make sure you get proper own boat tuition and practise enough before setting out on a serious journey.
if you take enough care choosing, your boat will last you. I've had my 435 for 16 years.
