Not sure if latestarter is reading this.... But i am sure somewhere i read his thoughts on gearbox mounting points, and wether they were used or not. Or, if he used the gearbox mount, and not the associated engine mount...

Rob,

Ask your engine supplier to provide CAD drawing of QSC/ZF with both mount options they are available.

Please could you explain the bow section...I don't understand why there is a rebate right at the top front of the bow; surely it will cause a lot of drag when it's ploughing into a head sea?

....or is there a separate piece that fits into the the gap to form a flush double skinned top to the bow?

(perhaps) stupid question. I remember perhaps in the Match 2 thread, that jfm was engineering fuel transfer between his tanks for some no doubt sound reasons.

Do you just have the two tanks supplying direct, or is there an intermediate day tank ? I'm just thinking of contingencies for a load of cruddy fuel.

yes, because of the fair curvature of the bow section, the stiffeners have been added to aid construction. As the welding progresses and the hull takes its final form, the nose will come out to meet and be faired in with it...
Ill get a much better idea tomorrow, as off to yard early doors. would have been this weekend but been layed out with a virus.

we Have just the two tanks. My preference was for four, but have been assured by yard that not carrying enough fuel to worry about it. Personally i preferred the idea of the redundancy it gave. But they reckon extra complexity. Personally, don't think it would be too dramatic. Think JFM carries enough to stop at Brent Alpha to fuel up though... :)
been reassured its ok as for c of g as well

Just a quick update.....

Progress has been a bit slow. Mainly with me working away, im currently in Congo, West Africa. Due home soonish.
We have the full 3D scan of the boat now, so we can start on interior design. Means we can pull off dimensions for any interior fittings (this is because of reluctance to give me access to original cad files) so we produce our own cad files.

Still awaiting some bits of steel missing from original kit. The flybridge front panel, and some sections from Transom
Then we can start welding. By my estimates we have three weeks welding to do. Then grinding, which may be another week, for a perfectly flush and smooth hull section and underwater profile.

Have three interior designs,
Two double beds, two doubles and a twin bunk arrangement, or a single double master and two twins.
I think go with the two double beds, with ensuite, and swap the bunk cabin to maybe dinette...

We have the drawings now for all sterngear, and the ground tackle arrangement.... But i think im changing the later...
Sorry for not much of an update... Been busy, only had week off in last three months, and i was Ill then...

I hate to see a boat taken up with cabins, two doubles is ample; young people are very happy to sleep on the floor in sleeping bags...

Thats all im planning. The drawings were worthwhile as gave me a good idea of what we can fit in.
I may even use the space of the bunk cabin for a dinette arangement. More than enough space for me.

Hi Rob,

Long silence with no pictures or updates so thought I'd check all is ok? Are you still blowing bubbles off of Nigeria and if so when are you due back? You need to be quick or you'll have missed the best summer for a few years! I reckon they should have finished your boat by now too so hope they've been taking pictures...

All the best,

Robin

Maybe Rob's collected the commission for lodging £100m in his account, and now he's living it up in Nigeria!

100million, i wish
Internet been dire on my travels.
Am home in about a week or so.
Things have progressed. The steel work is basically all finished. A few holes to cut here and there and its pretty much a complete hull.
It really does look like a little ship and starting to take on its character.
We had a family of swifts move in to the chain locker over the summer too.
Photos to follow, i promise
