Well, ive missed the summer. Ive had little time off work, the odd week here and there, and basically bounced from one job to the next... Angola, Congo, Norway, Vietnam...
Currently in north sea... Next job then is either mexico, or Nigeria...
But the lads in the yard have cracked on

Bit of a bun fight with the flying dutchman, who still hasn't sent me all the steelwork, or drawings or anything else... So im not on talking terms with him... I do it myself....anyway... Enough of that....

We were struggling to get the bigger engines in... After fall out with holland, ive got another designer in. So we check, and double check everything, and triple check... Before its too late....
Hans initial calcs said x amount of power would do the job.... X was no way near enough...
Wolfson, amongst others.... Said Y is much more like it...
So we have gone with Z
Which gives us 600hp each side... (Even though, i was really tempted to try and stay with the new 6.7 litre 550hp block. Weve moved up to the qsc after talking with cummins.... Far more torque, and not busting its balls all day...
Because of having to go to bigger engines, we've had an absolute swine of a job getting them under the floors.
Original plan has been thrown out, and we are now back with a conventional design gearbox.
Ive had to attempt to try and teach myself some cad software too, not fun...
But designer i am using is old skool.... Paper and pencil kinda guy...
We have the engine beds cut, fuel tanks cut,
Water tank designs, (will be in plastic) think hes gone over the top with capacity.... May leave one of the FW tanks out.
And we have a combined grey/black water tank, (not 100 % sold on weather to split the grey and black water...

Oh dear, sorry to hear of all the hassle - I guess that's a downside of DIY/not having a single designer/builder to shout at. I thought the Dutch were good at this steel boat thing! At least it sounds like the project is still on course and you discovered the issues before getting past the fit-out stage. It's an admirable project to take on and I hope costs don't spiral so as to take away the satisfaction at the end. We've had a better summer, but progress on my little project has suffered as a result so I'll be playing catch up over the winter! I'm guessing you won't have had much time to use the Rapallo then after all the work either? :( Laser images are neat - how is that done to avoid any 'perspective' distortion?

Ive had a bit of use out the old girl. Not as much as last year, and seems i get time off when the weather is ****. Hoping to go direct to jersey after i have been to southampton boat show... Will see when i get off here... Then ive got to be in plymouth for a week at end of the month.
Roll on union street for a bevvy

Hoping to be in Plymouth myself on Sunday 28th for the last round of the OCRDA powerboat racing (as a spectator I hasten to add!) Depending when you are down, feel free to give me a shout if you fancy a day on the water - smaller boat than you're used to but I'm sure but can fit in one more. :D I'm working on the 27th otherwise I'd do both days...

Beautifully smooth and fair; those Welsh fabricators know their business! :)

Looks fantastic even in rusty steel: you might not like the Dutch NA, but he's produced a lovely design that looks great from every angle, a very hard thing to achieve.

...once you get the windows in and the structure watertight you'll start to make real progress.

will you launch before you fit out the interior?

I wouldnt call them welsh, they will get the hump... :)
And its red oxide primer ill have yo know :D

Wont be launching till its finished...

Ive touched base with a company who is going to produce any glass work i need. Flybridge furniture a possibility, or will look at the hatches, and doors... Ie external cupboards under fb stairs, anchor locker etc etc...
They are ax broom, and still do stuff for broom. Looks like top notch quality too...

Broom has always had the reputation of producing top quality fitouts that last for years and years.

Your correct there RB
He has done a beutiful job... Shame he has taken his issues out with his ex partner on me.... Anyway... Less of that. Ive footed the bill, and will finish it without him.
But it gives you some idea of some of the delays etc....

The steelwork is faultless. The dutch are masters at it. Without a doubt.

Very sorry for the delay gents. Ive been flat out at work.
The hull is basically finished, and the yard have just started on two trawlers. We have a welder just refreshing his coding, then it can all be permanently glued together.
Ive got a few detail shots. More to follow soon, home soon.

What I am currently on with is specifying equipment. So I have lots of catalogues to go through, comparing prices, quality, etc etc.
I have a full equipment load out, and the schematics for general arrangement is complete. So now its catalogue shopping time.
My shelves at home are starting to fill with equipment. Starting with anything to do with the hull itself, so cleats, ground tackle, deck fillers, shore power, etc etc etc.
Basically if it needs a hole cutting in the hull.....

The detailing is superb; plasma cut profiles really do make sense...

I'm just trying to imagine how long it would take to cut out those pieces with a torch!:D
