Does anyone have recent experience?...
I am a UK sailor, planning a trip to Iceland (which is Schengen, so I know I can only spend 90 days there).
I have not been able to get a definitive answer about whether I can add time in the Faroes to the 3 months?
Thanks in advance.

I will sail up there to try some fresh dolphin steaks, washed down with a bottle of undercover aquavit; I've always wondered what they taste like.

They (The Faeroes) were described to me to be similarly beautiful as Shetland or Orkney, but with funny tides, in that there's almost no rise or fall, but hellacious currents everywhere!
Similar to Orkney I guess.
It's on my 'next year' list to visit, as previously I've worked with some guy's from the Faeroes who were terrific company.

There is a tidal stream atlas of the Faroes, produced (from memory) by a fishermans' co-op or somesuch, my copy is buried but yes a lot of fast streams all over the place.

I was in the Faroes 8 years ago for a few days for a football match. It's a stunningly beautiful place. I stayed in Torshavn. As far as I recall the berthing fees for visiting yachts was very reasonable and the port is right in the centre of town a short stagger from an excellent Irish bar.

There are restaurants occasionally offering that, of course it's not written in the menu and one needs to know a bit the owner, it's the odd dolphin having been accidentally caught by fishing nets, at least it's fresh.
The Faeroeans have left a big proportion of this year dolphins rot for days, again better trust the restaurant owner.

If I'm in the Faroes I'd rather be drinking Faroese beer!
My experience is no longer recent, but I found the islands to be stunning, the scenery magnificent, the tides scarey, and the people friendly and welcoming. And the beer very good - they do a dark lager called Black Sheep which I became very fond of.
I don't recall anchoring while there. There's plenty of small marinas/docks used by local fishing boats, at very reasonable prices.

I was in the Faroes a few years ago. They are administered by Denmark but outside the EU - a bit like the Channel Islands, being part of the UK (sort of) but not in the EU (as it was) .

Nominal rise of tide, but tidal streams are ferocious and have to be worked. The tidal stream atlas is known as "The Red Scare Book!!. I used to have a copy but can't fine it. They have a very odd of defining depending on the time of the moon's meridian passage which was incomprehensible (to me). I worked with the late Willy Ker to see if we could produce something more accessible , such as the time of HW Dover as Reykjavík as a datum.

+1 for the scenery: Northern tip of Eysturoy.

Must admit being surprised by this thread. For a western society doing what these people do is sickening . I always thought that yacht people are more aware than most . Some on hear even even make fun of it. I think I am done on these forums .
