I owned one as my first boat. She had end plates welded to the bilge plates, which, Ibelieve, were non-standard. I found she sailed 100% more efficiently when the engine was lifted out and the blanking hatch inserted. She was great fun but I found the berths too narrow so sold her in the end. Have fun.
Leon, Many thanks for your response. Do you perhaps recall any of extension dimensions? I am trying to aquire as much info. as possible prior to pulling the boat out of the water and getting stuck into some serious TLC. The poor thing seems to have been suffering the fate of "Discarded Mistress" for some years.
The reason for the "ballast" query was comment in the text of the PBO article(Feb '71) quoting "420 lb on the central stub keel" which conflicts with 545 lb mentioned in the spec. panel of an attached "2nd Hand" snippet(PBO Dec'85)
I am wondering if the ballast level might have been increased during the course of the manufacturing run to make the boat less inclined to sail on "its ear" as mine does, even in light winds.
The comment about bilge plate extensions is interesting as it would add weight and grip.
If you or anyone else can help in any way I will be most grateful. Rod
