Hi one and all
Just a quick for anyone who is in the know!

I have an excel spreadsheet with a list of about 25,000 items in it. I want to remove any data that doesn't contain a certain symbol (eg "@") without having to search all the way down the column.

Any one out there know how to do this?

Help!

Select entire List, go to Data -> Filter -> click on Autofilter.

Click Down Arrow in Top Line in field you are interested in. Select Custom then select Does Not Contain in Left Field and @ in Right Field for example. Then click Ok.

You should now have a list of all records without an @. Select and Delete.

Ctrl+F will give you a 'Find and Replace' box.

Put in the '@' in the Find Section and ' ' in the replace section.

You may have to play about a bit - but should work.

Just re-read OP. Ignore me and I'll go away.

Use the Autofilter tool ('Data' > 'Filter' > 'Autofilter' whilst you have selected the top row of the data), the filter using the 'Custom' Option and Select 'Contains' in the first box and then type your criteria in the second box, ie '@'.

You will then only see the data with the '@'

Alternatively, you can filter for items that 'Does not Contain' the '@' and then delete them.

Hope this helps

Jonny
