SIMPLE QUESTION. HOW GOOD ARE EPOXY,MAHOGANY CORE HULLS.NO OSMOSIS I HERE.LIGHTER I AM TOLD. WHATS THE BAD NEWS ON A 45' DACK SALOON KETCH IN EPOXY?

If you damage the outer layer of epoxy and expose the mahogany/ceder/timber core you will discover that the core will absorb a lot of water depending on the time it is left in the water. You have to haul out let dry or cut back to dry and repair. Can get expensive if damage is at or below waterline.

REBEL MARINE in Anguilla advised that if I was going to leave my boat (power) at mooring with occaisional coming along side a dock then go for the timber cored epoxy BUT if I was going to haul out/trailer/ moor along side docks or other boats then go for GRP.

Suggest high modulus carbon fibre wound hulls(you can make two at once that way) with epoxy as the laminating medium and nomex cores. You could use a nominal +5, -5, +45, -45, + 60 , - 60, 90, -60, +60, -45, +45 followed by +45, -45 kevlar. Save weig
