I have a 27 footer with a Yanmar yse12! - have notiuce that 1 of the engine mountings seems on the way out - black rubber sticking out the side. The mounting is from the 'foot' of the engine & onto 2" angle iron. It is about 2" x 1" - rubber between 2 metal plates with 1 (?2) bolt through - from memory.

Do I need to replace them all if only 1 is a problem?
Can I remove & replace the faulty one without touching the others?
Do I need to get 1 exactly the same?
Where do i hunt for one?
other tips?

Also - has anyone had a YSE12 rebuilt / refurbished? At what sort of cost?

Cheers

Mike

Ideally you should inspect them all and replace as a set. Keep them away from any diesel leaks/drips as it messes up the rubber. I expect you can get them from your local Yanmar dealer but expect to pay a premium price. I also suspect that as it is a japanese engine you won't be able to get exact replacements from another source. Take one off and see if there are any makers names/part no's stamped/marked on them. Be careful, the rear ones may be different from the front ones.
For alternatives try Vetus or Trelleborg who have taken over the UK made Metalastic range. http://www.trelleborg.com/industrialavs/
Good luck!

R and D good a good range of mounts. Helpful ppl too.

I would suggest replacing all mounts. They are not expensive.

I have a YSE12 in my boat ( a 30footer) and last winter did a overhaul job on it myself as it was getting difficult to start etc. I managed to do it all in situ and it was quite straightforward. I can't remember the exact costs but it was about £400 and this included new rings , big-end bearings, gaskets and a complete overhaul of the water-pump. At the same time I also replaced all of the engine mountings and the flexible coupling to the prop-shaft. The difference to performance and comfort has made it all very worth while. If you want to know more about what parts I used PM me and I will sort out my old receipts.

Just like in cars, the mount that gets the upward load is the one that fails first - just replace the one mount. Yanmar generally have fairly soft mounts, and the front and back mounts are different to cater for differing loads. Don't use a non Ynamar mount, as aftermarket ones are all much too stiff - remove the existing one, and set the new one to the same height as that on the one you took out, unless you want to play with realignment.

You may find the same type difficult to find as I had to replace all 4 on my YSB8 about 2 years ago. Couldn't get originals and new ones had wider bolts so would not fit thru holes on engine feet, the engine had to be removed to drill the feet so ended up quite a job.

good luck
