Hi

Have had the Engine Maintenance DVD now for a while but have not had chance to sit down and watch it until last night. I think it's very good and shows the basic information for those who need to learn and gain confidence in maintenance.

There is one point which I think may be worth pointing out. It's at the beginning of the Pre Start Checks. When Nick explains about checking the gearbox oil he says that you unscrew (or with a spanner) the dipstick and wipe clean before putting the dipstick back but do not screw down . This is ok with the Volvo Penta 'box but is not the correct way for the newer PRM 'boxes. With the PRM 'boxes you have to remove the dipstick, wipe it, and then screw the dipstick fully down then remove again to read the oil level.

Using Nick's method on the PRM 'box, the dipstick will give you a low reading indicating that a top up of oil is required. Remember, filling the gearbox with too much oil may cause overheating and oil leaks.

If anyone is not sure then refer to your owner's handbook.

This Month I bought PBO Cos I thought the DVD might be interesting.
Stuck it in and it said"I don't want to play I think I might be corrupt" or summat like that.
Low and behold MBM drops through the letter box and there's one stuck in it.
So just stuck it in the pute and again no go! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Just stick it in your DVD machine for your telly. The one you watch movies on while having a beer or three.

Probably makes more sense after a few beers anyway !

Beer or three! Well I never!
Get No. 1 Son to sort the wires out for that.
Should be able to sort out the pipes for that, what with swapping all My Super 8 Cine stuff to VHS and then on to Video and then to CD bloody H I can't keep up!

Lap Top, Real Player, Inter Video,Win DVD, De Blah De Blah.
Widows Media Player---- Gord an Bennit ,gotta get into the 21'st Cent.
Thanks Chaps DVD Looks at telly is the way to go.
I'll enjoy the Vid now.
Thinks---"How mutch will I get for the spare one on E bay?"
Does it work like that?

Wow! A free DVD! Finally good and compact to store information about engine maintenance. I can't wait for it!
Unfortunately it's only for UK readers. As I am living in the Netherlands I have to wait a little bit longer, until Neverland or so. What a pity, what a shame!
Of course I can understand that. The price we pay here in NL for a PBO issue is not the same as in the UK, isn't it? It's just 6,99 Euros per issue, which is approx 4,5 Pounds. You can't expect an extra DVD fot that price, can't you? Above that, maintenance of Dutch engines is totally unnecessary, so what do I complain!

AvanLoon if You PM Me your address I will stick My spare one in the Post.
Donation to Your Lifeboat Chaps or Your favourite Charity will do.
Or I.ll swap You for one of Your maintenace free Engines! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Yes and some gearboxs have to be checked immediately after stopping the engine.
But over all excellent advice and 'short cut' method would be enough to keep you safe.

After you have viewed the DVD remember it also can be put to great use

Tie two long bits of string through the hole.

Make fast one end to the highest point you can reach on the shroud while fastening remaining loose end to a cleat.

You have an effective Seagull scarer.
