I am converting my 30 foot boat to electric power. Anyone know of any useful sites covering this subject? A couple of BMC 2.2 Diesels + gearboxes with spares up for grabs, fully reconditioned so I am told (engines in Henley on Thames), any one interested whole or broken for spares? Swop for solar cells / traction batteries / 9.9 HP outboard or WHY.

I've got a very long cable if that's any use as a swap. Oh and its got a plug on one end.

Try www.just12v.com. Or, www.12volts.co.uk
I dealt with two companies when re-wiring my boat. Do not have the names to hand out here, but I think one was Index Marine (Dorset) and the other was taken from PBO classified excellent catalogue, based I think on the east coast. Sorry cannot be more helpful.

Electric propulsion

Fascinating subject for river/lake use. If your 30ft boat had twin diesels, you're going to need a mighty big battery bank if you ever want to go far, although you may be able to combine battery power with a diesel genset for extended operation. The best place to look for electric boat info is www.econogics.com/ev/evboats.htm where there are loads of links to relevant websites.
