Range Extenders:-

No, Tesla don’t believe in internal combustion - not an option, never will be.

Whether another company offers as a retrofit I don’t know....

Build quality:-

There is a lot of issues with the Model 3 at the moment build quality wise.

One of the reasons I mention the Ford is that there isn’t much that Ford don’t know about making cars in volume, which is where Tesla is struggling.
 
My youngest daughter is getting a BMW iX3 something electric vehicle in June, she wanted the Mustang electric but that is not available until much later in the year, she has been on maternity leave for a couple of months and doing some work from home and the company she works for want to replace the VW Golf she has as a company car.

She was home with a Tesla S last year and we had a spin out in it, frighteningly fast but boy those motors make a lot of noise, it was far noisier in it than in my Range Rover with the knobbly tyres on.
She does not tow anything and her hubby has an Audi with a towbar if needed.

My wife and I were looking at a merc hybrid for herself but the lack of towbar on it put us off.
As I still require the 3500kg towing capability I'll keep the Range

No. I wish I hadn’t bothered changing from a perfectly adequate and better built 6 series gran coupe. I still have the old car and I’m toying with the idea of getting rid of the Tesla but the issues need to be sorted before this decision can be made.
 
For your info, I believe that "Range Extenders" are the small petrol generators that can be used to extend mileage. I have a BMW i3, a model that had a range extender option until it was discontinued in the UK when the 120ah model was released.

I'm not sure Tesla ever fitted Range Extenders, it's certainly not an option these days.
The Tesla Model 3 comes in three versions. The basic car, the long range and the performance

I’m sorry to hear that. It’s not the ringing endorsement I had hoped for?. I am hoping that they have sorted their problems out.
Anyhow, it’s early days. I still haven’t made an appointment with Tesla, I hoping to go in a week or two
 
I know - the cost is huge - I’ve spent £8 on fuel since June 2020 on mine......





Seriously, the cost of fuel is practically nothing. I can charge for free at work admittedly, but a full tank at home is about £3 (60kw x 5p a kw) there are still lots of free public chargers and so on. I only really pay to rapid charge which I have done once....

Seriously, electric cars cost nothing to fuel at the moment.

Have you checked your bill recently or do you have access to your own supplies?

Cheapest deal in the UK is around 12 p making your refuelling cost around £7.20 rather than £3.
 
Nope - Octopus do an electric car tariff - 5p between midnight and 6am

I am not on it, I don’t have a charger at home as I can usually charge at work - and we have a local free public charger...

But I am now furloughed, and so am thinking of getting the octopus one but holding out to see what Bulb are going to offer - rumours are they are going to undercut Octopus.

We are on a rubbish tariff - we are in a rented house, so on 20p day and 10p night rate - hence my figures in other posts. My “full tank at home” figure was based on what I could get not what I get now.

I only ever charge at home if I am over 90% but want to be at 100% if I have. Along drive next day. Below that I go to a local free charger - park up and leave - gets about 10% per hour....

I am with Bulb, so going to try and move to their best tariff once the smart meter is put in (haven’t been able to change it during lockdown) and then going to see what we can get - but at 5p, overnight charging would be ok here too then.

Ok (on a Tesla, don’t know about the others) you are not supposed to charge to more than 90% (although 95% if an emergency). Apparently, if you fill it up the regenerative brakes don’t work. So, ironically, the less you charge the further your range (Elon explains it so much better)

My regen works from 100%. If you imagine, the moment you pull away after a 100% recharge you will start to deplete the battery (unless you're pointing down a hill)!

I use more fuel on a single weekend on the boat than my Disco uses in a year. I'm not against electric but the savings dont sell it to me. 98 pence a mile cost of ownership seems extraordinarily steep to me too. I'm averaging close to a third of that. Not sold.

I’m sure you’ll love the driving experience and the fact that the charging is very easy to sort and it’s a modern feeling car. Having the app instead of a key is useful too. For me, the whole experience has been dampened by the relentless issues, some of which were in fact created by the service centre.

I suggest joining the Facebook group for model 3 owners and reading through the experiences on there. I counted over half a dozen people with paint peeling off of cars having washed them after 1000 miles from new on Sunday in the space of a couple of hours. You can draw your own conclusions. I’ll leave it at that.
 
The main motivation for getting a new car is to get rid of the volvo. I would never get an electronic car from volvo.

polestar branched out and are not a subsidiary of Volvo these days. The polestar looks like a great car. If you can justify the premium then the Taycan cross turismo looks excellent. Coming back to the subject here, I’m not sure if it can tow though! ?
