DSC and radios

I would agree, totally, with your decision. As you now have the benefit of training in two totally different radio services and are aware of the differences between them whilst that knowledge compliments your use of both. Never a bad thing!

Mike - I assume that Ofcom will be following up on all the posters in its jurisdiction who claim to be operating illegally and are identifiable /forums/images/icons/smile.gif.

Just a note, The amature exame no longer tests CW. You are presented with a paper and have to cross the correct answer,I was told by a now licenced amature he more or less could guess the answer,of course he had been useing a call "bought legaly" with no exam for ages before it lapsed,he hadent paid the renewal he got that call in south America.
Even in Europe, while standardised, VHF uses got a letter two years ago saying they now have HF use as well. Ive forgotten so much as i never use SSB any more!
Before starting spend a while listening and get a book explaining all the QRM QRB QRP 73s &88s ive forgotten -ill have to find my old book--its also useful to buy a small book on anntenas

Mike hi,

Do you want my address? If you successfully prosecute me I will buy you a beer!

I am quietly pleased how many other rebels are appearing now!

Do you agree that when the law is an ass you should stand up and say so? Never could stand the smug teachers pet breed. They miss so much fun!

Nice to see you posting again under your old colours

Michael

[/ QUOTE ]I sat all three exams at a Ham conference in November, and passed. I am a trained electronics engineer and I can say with complete certainty that nobody would be able to get through the Intermediate and Advanced exams on guesswork alone. Although the Advanced exam questions are multiple choice how could you 'guess' an answer from three perfectly plausible choices? No, there is quite a lot of study needed, even for a qualified electronics engineer unless they happened to already possess specialist radio knowledge. The Foundation level is pretty easy but it specifically does not permit operation while on tidal waters so would be pretty useless to most cruising yachtsmen. You need the Full licence to operate while on tidal waters (even in harbour).
