Have a type of prop shaft seal that needs constant regreasing else it leaks like a running tap. I am thinking about a dry seal ie the Plastimo Stopelo Shaft seal, Anybody know anything about it?? effective?? easy to fit?? waste of money?? anything better??
Thanks

Depends where you are on the east coast ( do you take the Mud? often or infrequently??) Sorry to be so personal! but some of the carbon/ brass type don't seem to like the mud in suspension, too much (lasted about two years) Fitted the Volvo shaft seal and ceased to have any problems with wet bilges!. Need a bit more information: Is it a seal type or is it a stuffing box (you mention regreasing). If it is a stuffing box - have you tightened it? - if you have - have you repacked it? Could be a simple solution that doesn't require replacement.

ta for response. It is a stuffing box seal, it is tight but i have not repacked it, if i do does this stop the flood much?
Yes i am an East coast sailer, but do not take to the mud unless by accident.

There is usually an outer nut that is held in place with a lock nut. Loosen off the locknut and tighten down the outer nut to compress the packing and form a better seal - try in half turn increments because if you tighten down too much you get friction, wear and over heating. remember to lock off.

Eventually you reach the stage of having fully compressed the packing and having no further turns on the compression nut. Then is the time to repack and start again. Mud isn't a major factor in stuffing boxes.

Have a look here for more info.
