Does Learner owe me a shilling?

Some months ago Learner bet me a shilling that he'd have a boat by Christmas. Now we've had a few posts recently intimating that he may actually be in real negotiations to buy one, but no jubilant post from him with a "Yippee I'm a boat owner now". And he has been a bit quiet lately.

So with Christmas come and gone and Learner probably ensonced in the SofF staring reflectively at his mooring, how am I going to claim my winnings?

Is a gambling debt legally recoverable in France and how do I go about getting this not inconsiderable sum from him? Should I insist on an actual "shilling" or should I be prepared to negotiate on conversioon to sterling or even god forbid, euro's?

This and other important question need resolving before the end of the year.

Or horror of horrors, is Learner likely to "Welsh on the bet". (Joke here bearing in mind his ancestry).

Thanks for your valuable advice oh owner of the Thames.

Now I reckon that some of those old "shilling coins" are possible worth a bob or two (geddit?).

So which year has the best value? Any coin collectors among you?

Who's going to own up to being a numismatist?

I'm C of E when over here and Greek Orthodox when over there.

Yes

..he does.

He had ( of course) thought of a number of dubious ways to avoid payment...

i.e.
1)Bought a model Boat
2) Boought someone else's boat and sold it back to him

I do howver have to confess not having completed the deal ...so yes I owe you one of your monarchy's best ... although I have not never will take the 'king's Shilling'.

For the recoed, I am proud of being Welsh, ourrecord is mich maligned.

Would you like me to collect your shilling?

I will be in France at the end of January and would happily go and collect your shilling for you.

We can negotiate my commission when and if he pays up.

Alas

.. tis true. Although I would have suffered much to avoid the paying of debts in the PoW, it looks like all can assemble at my expense. Date and time to be decided...

Still on the same boat but the oil samples still not back from Lyon, evrything else OK , I'll post the full list of issues/remedies on the survey later this week. Surveyor has been REALLY helpful in the end.

I diddn't expect you to be on line until the New Year.
