Does any one know the boat Peter Pan on the Thames?

We tried to get through to the locks yesterday whilst it was progressing downstream but none answered.

Another reason why there should be a far better way to make contact with the local lock staff. Not just get the fax machine in the lock office.

I would have hoped in this case if it was reported to the EA incident room they would have made contact with the nearest lock via the lock keepers mobile.

The police need to be made aware that they are duty bound to respond to damage to the boat and occupants. Would they wash their hands if some one had been seriously hurt?

Don't hold your breath. My experience of this forum is that many will rubbish your claims, despite never having seen the original offence...:nonchalance:

As this happened on the Monday following the bank holiday "Peter Pan" could have been a visitor enjoying the Windsor stretch of the Thames. The EA should look at visitor licence issues.

Out of one the London marinas or mebbe even further afield.Might be from the Essex coast or the Medway How about the SSR register. Possible to request a search of their database perhaps ?
Be very useful to know exactly what the boat was.
Was it one of the newer like a shoebox beasts or the earlier melted icecream versions which went out date faster than a bottle of milk .:)

I take it you are not a Sealine fan Oldgit? :D

Are you talking to the actual police , or one of these know it all civilian operators at 101 ?

As the OP tells it, I cannot see how it is a police matter (my policing career included Thames Division in the Met).

If the damage was not sustained by contact, or by intent, it is not criminal damage.

If the EA has brought successul prosections for damage from excessive wash, then that suggests the EA as navigation authority has that role - not the police.

Same goes for tidal river - such issues were always dealt with by PLA, not Met unless actually seen by us.

I tend to agree although criminal damage can be caused 'intentionally or recklessley' IIRC. Proving the reckelss element would be a challenge but not neccisarily insurmountable. I would imagine that any navigation/river offences would not fall within the jurisdiction of the police and that is probably what the call taker meant when the OP originally called it in.

Passed us and has gone through Marsh lock.

I know that the http://canalplan.org.uk/boats/boats.php is not up to date but there are only 6 entries for Peter Pan non of them from the Thames and non are Sealine 42. It does not show on the site ever being registered. Would this mean it is new to the Thames this year? The EA need to investigate and help the guy who has sustained damage and enable him to make contact with the owner of Peter Pan. Or am I thinking the impossible?

Hi, just seen a Sealine S41/42 called Peta Pan go past us at the Ferry in Cookham heading downstream. Should just about be arriving at Cookham Lock. Good luck.

There are no boats registered on the thames with the name 'Peter Pan' , there is however one registered as 'Peta Pan' ... I checked.

You need to be sure of the spelling of the name of the boat before you bandy accusations around.

Chap may be able to view the boat and than make up his mind if it was the one involved. If it was, then all he has to to do is to approach the skipper in a civil manner and ask for 5 mins of his time.Explain that damage was caused along with details of where and when. This enables the chap to appreciate that it perhaps he was responsible, then to decide which route to take to sort it.
Give him a chance to put things right without threats.
If you are rebuffed...then off you go and give him a hard time.

Hi, thanks everyone for their help.

Things have developed over the last couple of weeks and we know a little more about it. The boat is indeed Peta Pan and that is actually what we thought before we were told (wrongly) it couldn't be as there was a Birchwood of that name registered. We know where it is moored and have left our contact details there for them to contact us but heard nothing unfortunately.

It sounds like he reached Cookham a few hours after we left which is a pity as indeed all we wanted was to sort this out between us.

After chasing round and reports getting lost etc. the EA have been enormously helpful and it was a shame we didn't know about the incident line which things like this can be reported on sooner as apparently there was an officer in our reach of the river when it happened and he even remembers seeing our boat.

Thank you again for all you help .

Hope you get this sorted to your satisfaction. From a personal point of view if this incident makes the chap aware of the chaos he is capable of causing with a boat that size, then something good may come out of this incident.
As regards not contacting you, some boat owners do not go near their boats for weeks on end.

I have noticed a Sealine S42 moored at Bray if anybody is interested. B Pontoon I think... :encouragement:

Peter Pan is her name :p
