.....a term you hear spoken more and more these days. For me my worst time was between boats so its better to have a boat than not. For me two boats are better than one and having any amount of boats in much better than none at all. The next time you hear someone utter those words, think how miserable you would be without a boat.........

Someone said this in conversation the other day and the reply was 'if you've never had a boat, you can't possibly understand the draw'. I have to remind myself from time to time that it's a luxury but I would be devastated to have to let her go if circumstances changed.

I was seriously considering canning owning a boat, going charter etc. We were getting ready to can the wooden tub....

Now I still have the wooden tub AND and newer glass tub. Maaaahhvellous! I'm on holiday all of June and all of August this year! He he.

Henryf commented on another thread how boating for him would always be in the UK, as it will it be for me. I just couldn't have a boat more than an hour away, quite simply, it is my escape

I live on Hayling Island, ergo I need a boat. :p :p :p

Lots of other people on this forum live in the British Isles, so they need boats too.

Near the Thames, the Medway, or the Stour or Avon ... Yup, you too :)

Well, if global warming floods our houses we will definitely need our boat :D
OK, not a serious concern for us in our life times.

For almost a year now I have been paying to have a boat (mortgage + berth + insurance) that I haven't been able to use. I am really looking forward now to the Spring and (hopefully) a sea trial to check that the boat is as good as new.

Given the weather this winter I am glad not to have had to worry about or visit the boat to check it as it is inside a large shed. That said I have really missed boating!

As with many hobbies some understand it very well - others not at all

I'm on my 7th boat since 1968, never without exept when between boats. To me boating is an all year thing and as I live only 10 minutes from the marina I go there often, even during winter. Just to check, plan little things to do etc.- etc. When I do the cost/pleasure maths it meets my expectations but I certainly understand that not all have the same result. Alone the number of neglected boats lying around proves that some owners ignore facts - and don't care.

I empty the boat and bring all gear home for the winter. Give it all some TLC and act on those small issues that occurs.
Over the winter I've purchased all the things needed for spring jobs. Got a few bargains and eliminated issues with lead times/backorders.

If you have had a boat then you need to own one.
We are coming to our third season without a boat (not planned) and I miss having one every hour of every day.
Even though I wouldnt be doing much boating at this time of year, I still feel like there is something missing in our lives.
If nothing else it would stop me spending too much time on boat related wed sites and forums.
(see Im at it now)

I know that this is not in the spirit of this thread but I thought this may be of mild interest.

We are seriously thinking of purchasing a new Sunseeker 28Metre which would be used by family and never chartered.

But when you do the figures and include all purchasing and running costs over say a 10 year period ,you could actually save a huge sum of money by not buying a boat and chartering different vessels for say 4 months of the year in the Med. and Caribbean.
