DIY Galvanic Isolator?

From some of the comments by the OP in this thread I would assume that he is not at all familiar with mains circuitry. I would suggest that it may be wise of him to consult a professional. The array of differing ideas, concerning mains power, posted in these forums can be confusing and could lead to mistakes and unsafe installations by the OP's.

By the time you've bought the parts, case, heatsink etc, how much can you possibly save ?

Are you sure it's working?
Are you sure it will fail safe ?
How do you know it hasn't been subjected to a current that's caused it to fail, safe ?

Get a decent, off the shelf GI with warning lamps to tell you it's working, or not.

I wouldn't necessarily rely on information on internet forums regarding DIY, at least one of the links posted here gives incorrect installation instructions and more.

A decent one would only be £60 or so.

True. I've done a full re-wiring on the boat but that was the DC part, a more straightforward procedure. I'll certainly read more about the AC, and will only attempt an installation if I feel 100% sure I know what I am doing.

I appreciate everyone's input!

Now and then I do some work for beer tokens; the mooring fees are due next month.

I see a lot of criticism about Health and Safety, but saw this poster in the heads and it really drives the point home.
