They're metering pumps and require a pulsed signal. You would pump one pulse every time you tap it, so you _could_ do it that way I guess :ROFLMAO:

Our diesel heater has a key combination on the control panel that makes it pump fuel while not running for the purpose of priming. Maybe yours does too - did you peek in the manual?

for initial priming it states just to run the hob and if it 'flames out - no fuel yet' remove the fuse wait 5 secs and try again
that is how i got it running when new
no other way to 'test' it on the hob as far as i can see
had the fuel line off the pump yesterday and it was bone dry, would have expected some weeping out of the bottom of the pump when disconnected

had it appart yesterday, the pump has two identical black wires, no polarity
fitted the new spare pump, that one fired the hob up no prob, could actually hear that one click in a much more postive way
just noticed the parts come with a 2 year warranty so will be sending the dud one back

be advised to def wear some sturdy disposable plastic gloves as there are plenty of sharp edges whilst refitting the pump

When it's working it gives a definite 'clunk' every second or so.
