Did you know that as a member of an affiliated club you are entitled to attend the B.C.Y.A. Annual General Meeting, please see details below...

Dear Sir or Madam:

The BCYA would like to invite up to 4 members of your club to attend our annual forum. On Sunday the 29th November. The venue this year is Cabot Cruising Club onboard the lightship John Sebastian in Bathhurst Basin Bristol starting at 1.30pm. Complimentary lunch will be provided and the bar will be open.

Presentations will be made to the Bristol Channel Yachtsperson Of The Year and to the Bristol Channel Club Of The Year.

The main thrust of this year’s meeting is to have a discussion regarding Bristol Channel Handicaps.....Is the Byron system working well, do we fully understand it and is there anything we can do to make it work better? We hope to have a full, open and participative discussion on this subject and to take actions based on your thoughts so please can you ask your sailing secretaries to make a special effort to be there this year.

You may or may not be aware that The Port Of Bristol has a new harbour master. He will be coming along to introduce himself and let you put a face to his name.

Traditionally this meeting is where we begin to put a Bristol Channel events program together for the year ahead. If you bring your early ideas for events and dates to the meeting you will have the opportunity to bounce them off other clubs and try to avoid clashes. Even though your club may not have finalised next years dates please bring along your early thoughts! I’ve enclosed a form to help you do that.

Legally we need to have an AGM and this forum is the perfect opportunity. We will make this part of the proceedings as short as possible and tuck it at the end but if any of your members would like to join the BCYA committee, this meeting presents the best opportunity, so please suggest they come along. You may have noticed that the BCYA profile has been raised in recent years through the publications of the Yachting & Cruising Guide To The Bristol Channel (The Blue Book) and by the highly successful Annual Rally which has become a feature of Boating & Sailing on the Bristol Channel. This has come about as a result of a vibrant committee with regular new blood.....more members would be most welcome.

Hope to see you and a few members on the 29th

Yours faithfully

Gordon
