i'm looking to fit an electric deck wash pump to my boat. Choice seems to be between shurflow and jabsco, both seem to produce similiar units. Does anyone have any opinions on which unit is best and any thoughts on the best way to install a deck wash system?

We had a Jabsco. Same pump as our main water system so a spare on board if needed for either!

Teed it off the forward heads inlet and sink so we could select either fresh or salt water.

Use a normal deck filler cap. With a pressure sensitive fitting and standard hozelock outlet.

Johnson deck wash

I have a Johnson deck wash system on my Beneteau it draws sea water from under the forward V-berth through a pump fitted under the V-berth also to an outlet in the anchor locker. As said the outlet is similar to Hozelock fittings, the hose is a coil with a spray gun at the end. Used mainly to wash the anchor when lifting but is very good on the deck also.

I mounted mine in an anchor locker, so that any leak would drain to the sea rather than get inside. This meant that the pump had to cope with a moist salty atmosphere ..... not too good for a pump.

I haven't used the Jabsco .... I use Surflo exclusively on this boat. I did try a Johnson deckwash pump once, but the bottom casting is alloy and the pump bolts froze in it ..... and it looked a mess. I had to take it apart to fix one of the valve and never got it back together again. The Surflo is still going strong and has lasted twice as long as the Johnson so far.

I fitted this kit over the winter http://www.asap-supplies.com/search/509528/shurflo-washdown-kit-509528 So far I'm happy with it. I took a tee off the heads inlet and ran it straight up to the deck. It comes up around midships and the coiled hose can just reach bow and stern. The deck fitting seems robust and the pressure/volume is acceptable but not stunning.

that was the kit I'd been looking at, seems a good price for what you get and people here seem to rate the shurflow pumps, I think that might be the one to go for
