Stinkbads feet

it's not the deck shoes it's your feet. A month after your visit we have begun to experimentally taken off our gas masks for short periods after opening all the windows. I recommend your poor swmbo has an operation to remove her sense of smell. Once you are an old git yiour feet will stop smelling quite so bad. Perhaps.

Don't want to be rude, but washing helps! Not yer feet, yer shoes. I stick my deck shoes in the washing machine every now and then. Then again you could try washing yer feet as well.

Sailbads Problem

Don't want to sound like any Prophet of Doom - but doesn't the forum think that its a bit early in the relationship for Mrs Sailbad to be chucking her weight about and burning his kit?
Has it come to this... is this how modern brides behave?

Blimey, a Google search on smelly feet is dodgy! I must have lead a sheltered life! Still this one was half sensible

Re: easy for you to say

you haven't smelled his feet. Proabably because you are based 200 miles away and the winds are northerly. Normally ourfamily is all polite and v welcoming to a guest and we wouldbn't make any comment at all. However, with sailbad i did mention the smell of his feet in passing " Jeez, cripes your feet AARGH the carpet will rot" and hurriedly chucked his shoes outside. And i speak as someone who has teenage boys with quite whiffy feet anyway. I am surprised that Mrs sailbad is still conscious, and by burning his shoes she is being very public spirited. My concerns are for her health. I also note the report that she sportingly attemopted to achieve an all-over tan on a sailing holiday, so I think it is quite clear whose side we should be on.

It isn't your feet or your shoes that are smelling, but the bacteria that are living in the stale sweat remains ....
Get a bucket, put the shoes in and cover with boiling sea water , leave for 20 / 30 mins or until water is cool.
The smell has gone.
Now wash your feet to stop bringing in more bugs.
Do this once a week in hot climates less in cold.

Old delivery skippers trick..
Hope this helps

Re: But....

Steve - yes this does happen to some shoes ( expensive ones that are poorly made ??)
We tried pouring the water into the shoes , not soaking them and this worked.

Whats wrong with yellow rubber???? Does it clash with your deck paint?

Have you found a better way for de-smelling shoes? - I would be interested to know..
cheers

Re: But....

I think Tom CUnliffe had an article about this a while ago. There were 2 suggestions. One was to put the offending shoes in the freezer for a while (overnight i think) other was to wipe with an ammonia solution. ofc for really bad ones a flamethrower might be called for!

Sailbad you smelly-footed little wretch
how dare you infiltrate Mrs Sailbads sensorys with your 'orrible cheesers. Never mind new fangled shoes - go barefoot and leave them outside when you come in.

Perhaps feet should be washed more than once a week..??

If the weather is half warm enough, then I would suggest deck shoe sandals with no socks. If the air can circulate the problem is lessened.

But Sailbads an englishman thru and thru, he always wears socks with his sandals. They look quiet fetching with the kharki shorts and bulldog tattoo.

Re: Ahh well - put like that

don't go doing the lad down ... i've been downwind of his feet and not a whiff could be smelt, though, mind, it'd have to be fairly rotten to be smelt above jimi's holding tank ...

Was it not the wigwam's bishop who told maggieT to put shoes on the NHS?

Re: wigwam bishop

lost me - who would that be?

note - whilst sailing he had wellies with laces at the top. I saw potholes in the carpark where he changed them later. Thisis not an NHS matter, more MoD.

Do you remember those X-Ray machines they used to have in shoe shops when we were kids in the 50's. They took them out for some reason. Pity really they sure keped the athletes foot and bacteria at bay.
