If I wanted to replace my snap davits with real davits (Whittall or Simpson I guess), anyone any idea what size/model I might need for a Fairline Targa 35, and any good suggestions where I might get them at a decent price?

Thanks,
Matt

Hi - We got a set of Simpson Series 7 from Cooney Marine via New World Yacht Care of Rhu, Nr Glasgow. If you go onto Cooney's web site they list appointed dealers and agents around UK and dimensions of the davits so you can figure out how much length you need etc.. The davits look good, work well and although over £2000 fitted it is money well spent. We have a 2.85m zodiac and 6hp o/b with a weight of around 50 kilos. The davits are rated at 150 kilos each which is the entry level for this model. Roy

Matt, what size of davit you need depends on the weight of what you want to carry. The general rule of thumb is that the weight of the dinghy and engine should not exceed the capacity of ONE davit. So if your dinghy and engine weighs 100kg, each davit must have a capacity in excess of 100kg. The next step is to determine whether the mounting points on your boat are strong enough. Most Brit boats have reinforced davit mounting pads but its worth checking with a Fairline dealer whether the T35 has these pads and what their capacity is.
You can get good deals on davits at boat jumbles and boat shows. Worthwile trawling the ads in Boats and Outboards http://www.boats-for-sale.com/ Maybe put a Wanted ad on this site as well

Thanks Mike. The engine weighs 23kg, dinghy is 31kg.
I know the original brochure pic shows davits fitted but I'll call Peters and ask them if the reinforcement was standard.
