Dangerous bivalves

Due to the hot weather the level of toxins in the sea has led to the capture of bivalves being prohibited in most of the Algarve but this information isn't readily available to foreigners whose health could be at risk.

'The Kraken Wakes', also by John Wyndham, is about sub-sea creatures that come ashore, destroying coastal towns and villages and eating people. More like giant woodlice than bivalves, but otherwise quite close
