I always get to know people by their boats before I learn their names...
... It is not as daft as sounds... On the water it is difficult to talk to someone but you can see the boats name so that sticks before you get a proper intro...

So when I joined the forum I used our boats name... Tomahawk....And I see some others also do the same... But I do wonder as to the thinking behind some of the other names folks use?

Please do tell..?

Sheer ignorance, I just used my surname and house number which is the "name" that I'd used for some other Internet accounts. It didn't even occur to me to use my boats name which in hindsight seems a pretty stupid decision. I don't know how to change it now or else I would

I use my own name

I cannot see why anyone would not use their own name

Because I never intended to use the forum regularly :D

I had one question I wanted to ask, then I planned to go away again. So I created an account with a quiet little name (hence lowercase) that wasn't the same as any other name I use. Not that it's especially secret either, it's my initials.

Didn't quite work out like that :)

I used my own name on Usenet since about the age of 15, which is all over Google, so I'm not shy about it.

Send PM to Laura asking for username change.

There's an awful lot of A.Smiths out there.

There is that reason and quite the opposite, I am unique if you Google my name and surname there is only me!

Just checked and yup you can see pretty much my life story, racing results, Places I have lived, types of phone, various forums I have used.

Now I try and keep a hole different name online.

My brother joined the World Sea Fishing forum (WSF) as The Dogs Pollocks and I decided to join a while later. Couldn't think of a username at the time so just chose The Dogs Pollocks Brother........I have since joined various forums and used the same one.

My nephew thinks I should use the boat name though........can't think why ;)

I had a complete lack of imagination and I am far to open and transparent...

If it had been our boat name it would have changed twice times by now but if you count the boats names that they arrived with it would have changed even more often.

SCOD: 'Lusula' became 'Tiggy'
Sigma 33: 'Dry Ice' actually stayed as 'Dry Ice'
Westerly Sealord: 'Salina' became 'Serendipity'

(The boat name changing is usually a familiy consensus decision.)

Its a good job I don't know how to change my forum name or you lot would never know who I was. But perhaps that would be a good thing? But then that might tempt me to make scurrilous remarks?

I didn't have a boat when I joined so had to think of something.
I tried using "Craig Smith" but all I got was abuse.
Changed it to Nostrodamus and what happens.... :D:D
