Does anyone know if it is still possible to anchor in the main harbour in Crotone? The depths on the chart show it is fairly shallow near the SW side so should be OK, Noonsite reports that "Boats do anchor in the New Port (Porto Novo) at the west side of the pier where the police boats are."

Anyone have any more recent info?

We anchored there for two nights three weeks ago Chris. No problem, but if you go ashore the wall is very high and there are few places to leave the dinghy.

If you go to Santa Maria de Leuca first - we tied up to the quay for the first night and were asked to move the next morning. The anchorage outside was fine.

We are planning to leave Montenegro on Wed and first stop is planned to be Santa Maria, anchorage should be fine in the forecast N winds. Then across Bay of Taranto where we are hoping to anchor somewhere around Capo Rizzuto / La Castella but the forecast for late Fri inot Sat is a bit mixed so was just checking out the option of going to Crotone if the weather is not co-operative. Rather not because it adds another 15nm onto to the last leg to Rocella, however it goes we hope to be in Rocella late Sat afternoon.
Just got to get filled up with duty free diesel before we leave and then get the fishing lures out to try and tempt some of the tuna that everyone else seems to be catching!!

Chris you can anchor in the bay just north of Le castella or do what we use to do . Go onto the fishmen quay in the harbour in Le castella

Thanks for that Vic, the fishermans quay could be the best option if the weather is unfriendly, anyway the entrance into the marina section of the harbour looks pretty narrow for us!!
The forecast at the moment is for W or NW winds so the first choice will be to anchor on the E side of Cappo Rizutto but at least we will have some options if needed.
