The overhead lewmar hatches on our boat are crazed - some useful info on line and on you tube about how to remove and replace the plastic - 3 questions please as follows:

1. anyone recommend a supplier - ideally nearish to gosport - to cut to shape replacement plastic ?

2. Some seem to suggest fitting new plastic on butyl tape - anyone done this and found it worked well- where did you get the tape from?

3. Force 4 are selling a hatch renovation kit - anyone got experience of this and how easy it was to use and the result achieved?

thanks

Some hatches are only held in place to the frame by adhesion of the sealer. Not sure butyl tape would work in that case.

I reglazed my hatches with new acrylic three years ago. All still perfect. New hatch acrylic bedded on 3M™ VHB™ double sided adhesive foam tape 12mm wide (bought on eBay) which can be coaxed around the radiuse corners without cutting. Bedding on tape is much easier than bedding onto a mastic sealant which can be very messy and tricky to ensure a neat finish on the inside. Clamp the acrylic against the adhesive tape overnight to ensure a good bond. Mask and then fill the 4mm gap around the acrylic with Dow Corning 791 silocone weatherproof sealant (as recommend by Dow Corning and available from my local builder's merchant or here https://www.screwfix.com/p/dow-791-w...ck-310ml/62431 )

I bought my acrylic (genuine Perspex) from https://www.simplyplastics.com/ . Ordered online and they can deliver. Took them a week but I was very pleased with the product.

Excellent Plum. I need a Lewmar hatch reglazinq which is abt 24 inches square (with a vent, which I will sacrifice) . It appears that the max thickness of simply plastics acrylic is 15mm. Based on your renovation do you think that this would support the weight of someone stepping onto the hatch?

My Lewmar hatch has acrylic 470mm x 340mm and is 10mm thick as originally fitted by Lewmar so I am sure 15mm will be good for your 24inch hatch but have you measured what thickness you currently have?

Simply Plastics may do more than what is on their website. I needed the corners of the acrylic radiused to a size not quoted on their website ordering system but an exchange of emails got them to do the size I wanted.
