connecting gps to raymarine sl70c

Update. I bought a nmea gps from eBay. 89 quid. I joined it to the power and data wires on the nmea input on the main power wire. Works fine. I was confused by the whole seatalk nmea thing but advice on here was great. It came the day after I ordered it and wiring diagram made it very easy.

You can lead a horse to water...

I'd have gone with the Seatalk option myself if all your either equipment is Raymarine. I've just replaced a Garmin unit with its own NMEA GPS for SeatalkNG and now all my instruments get the GPS data on the bus with no extra work.

But now you're locked into Raymarine....

Yes I know what you mean. But I suppose its an old system and eventually I will update and it will all be n2000 stuff anyway. I have bought the radar plotter 2nd hand and i dont suppose it will last forever anyway. I thought if it all does go ponto I can still use the gps for my other standard horizon plotter. It has been interesting reading the advice given and i have appreciated it

Strangely though you didn't offer any advice.

Nothing strange about it - I didn't read the thread until he'd posted he'd bought something.

Best you think about your own advice and not other peoples's

Maybe you should do the same, rather than making snide remarks to the OP about which route he took, especially as you were no part of thread before he made his decision.

It wasn't a snide remark; the thread was clearly in favour of a Sealtalk GPS. You can either take people's advice after asking for it or do your own thing ;).

He asked for advice, got two different suggestions, chose one, implemented it and is happy with the outcome. His equipment works as he wanted it to. No need for "leading horse to water" comments.

To be fair. I got good advice both sides. Then acted on it. Not really any need to be funny about it. It wasn't a controversial question. I thanked all for the advice
