Anyone know anything about the propsed congestion charges that Hampshire County Council are considering introducing to certain ports in the Solent. Someone told me it will cost £20.00 to get into Lymington or Beaulieu next season.
Were they not trying to restrict Hamble moorings to owners who paid rates in the Hampshire area a while ago?, I remember filling in a questionaire a couple of years back.
I said they could do that: but dont ask to use my M25 ...so there!
No its absolutely correct. Lymington and Beaulieu being used as pilot schemes and if successful will be extended to Yarmouth, Hamble and Chichester.
Pilot schemes will come into operation on 1st April 2003.
There won't be any jobsworth or anything coming to collect the charges but with compulsory DSC they will be able to keep tracks on where the boat has been and if you've been into these places you will get an invoice through the post.
I havn't heard anything official yet but the guy who runs the boat yard I sail from was talking about plans for all boats to be colour coded according to length so that the powers that be can tell this at a glance. Will enable marinas and harbour authorities to levy the correct charges easily. Perhaps even more sinister charges and in the pipeline.
