Surely a better idea would be to PAY people to LEAVE these crowded Solent waters - a sliding scale could be introduced offering a large amounts especially for skippers prepared to relocate their boats some distance away -to the West Country for example, or the East Coast, leaving the Solent area wonderfully quiet for the rest of us left behind. If it's good enough for Sunsail........

If you think congestion charges might bring howls of protests, what do you think that might kick off!!

No - much better to levy a fruity congestion charge. Say £2k for a 30 footer.

Anyone who's daft enough to pay Solent marina charges clearly deserves parting from more of his/her money.

The fund generated could be used to increase the number of coastguard radio operators, so solent sailors could have radio checks every hour.

There. I feel better , now.

Re: Toll booths at Hurst and No Mans Land. nm

What about a "bus lane" between Hamble and Cowes. Nobodies allowed near it unless you've got at least a 35 foot stinkie

I heard they are looking at a boat pool lane, like the car pool idea in the US. In other words if you are setting out on a cruise in company from your yacht club with only 2 people on board you will be penalised. There will be a fast lane for yachts with doubled up crew.
