cockpit table

The cockpit of my Sadler 26 is to small to house a permanent table.Does anyone have a suggestion how a diy folding table can be fitted? I have the same problem in the cabin where the bunk has to be converted into a table[caravan style] Any suggestions for a folding table?

I have a Lagun table for my cockpit. Was a bit expensive but very usable. Stows flat against a bulkhead in an aft cabin when not in use.

years ago on the motorboat monthly mag site i saw a cockpit table that collasped in similar fashion to how an ironing board folds flat to the floor, you might need to raise the floor a bit to accomodate the folded/flattened table, on my current motor boat i have a round aluminium deck plate (low profile) it has a central threaded socket, aluminiun leg 2inch diameter screws into this, , has a removable fitting on top to fit to underside of table. takes 2-3 mins to dis mount /' remount, bought it all here in australia from chandlery, about A$ 85-90. approx 50 quid, (i think) should be available in uk. cheers peter. Whatever you do, don't do what the previous owner of my boat did and use the tiller for part of the table mounting. The slightest wave or swirl of current and the table rocks from side to side

I bought one of the Lagun tables .... large one with formica type finish (shame on me) and teak (?) fiddles round the edges which I've varnished 4 coats. The wholly wooden finished one was nicer, and more expensive, and would have needed varnishing anyway but this one looks ok and it doesn't matter if I leave it out overnight in the rain or dew. With an extra bracket it can be used down below as well which I've considered, my existing cabin table being a bit of a monster. It was expensive (£230?) but you've only got to buy it once .... I'm going to keep it for my next boat!

Can't help with saloon table.

What I did for a cockpit table was-measure the available space i.e. footwell in the cockpit. Go to a large camping/caravanning place, find a table in aluminium that fits almost exactly. Top was made of aluminium slats so rolls up for storage, frame folds up small as well. Cost if I remember about £45, job done.

My table is clipped to the lazarette that forms the aft of the cockpit so it's reasonably rigid and sits on the tiller, with a block of wood eother side of the tiller. It doesn't move and when we aren't at sea, it locks the tiller without spilling the wine. The table top is something I found in Ikea's Bargain corner for change from a couple of quid. After about 5 years, it's coming to the end of its natural life, so I suppose I'll have to do it properly this time

On mine, the tiller hinges up to a vertical position, to expose a fitting on its underside. The middle of the aft end of the table clamps onto this fitting, and a hinged leg runs from the middle of the forward end to fit into a recess in the cockpit floor roughly under the midpoint. You will realise that so far the table is supported only along the centreline, with nothing to stop it tipping side to side. Supposedly this is achieved by a pair of lanyards tied off either side, but of course these have too much stretch to really hold the table still. Waggle the tiller from side to side with some water movement, and the whole thing is horrendously unstable.

Not one of his better inventions.

Yours sounds perfectly reasonable, with a stable connection at the aft end.

Sorry I don't, I think there are pictures up of it somewhere on the Drascombe forum. It should be easy to replicate as long as you account for hinges etc when it is collapsed, or even simpler a seperate pole to prop the table up

Could be used for all sorts of applications e.g. a clip on one over the side to put your BBQ on as the sunsets in the estuary - glass of wine and watch your fish slowly cook as the sun goes down... BLISS

Another vote for the Lagun system here. I have a bracket in the cockpit and also the saloon and it works perfectly in either location...with the added bonus of being able to swing it into almost any usable position in either location.

You could save a few quid and just buy the leg system, and make your own wooden table top...
