CNB Bordeaux 60 - in build (pics)

Looks superb. Main looks to set well and the genoa shape is excellent - shame about the staysail but shouldn't take long to fix. Looking forward to seeing that set up when its done.

Have you thought about sail numbers?

left hand drive I see??????

:D

FAB as always !

how does the over purchase compare to buying the sunnyseeker. Smoother.... ??? or are you still on a steep learning curve !

In my view right choice of boat !

I can see how you control the vertical movement of the boom, but how is the horizontal disposition controlled with just two tackles ?
I don't know, but it seems to work well enough.

Is there provision for a hood arising out of the white breakwater just in front of the main hatch ?
Indeed there is but the sprayhood isn't fitted until all other deck work is complete.

Those very neat flush hatches on the foredeck look a bit slippy in contrast with the rest of that beautiful and grippy teak. Any thoughts on anti-slip tape ?
There is anti-slip tape on the crew quarters hatch, but yes I agree the others could benefit from some too.

The outer ends of the spreaders (carbon fibre?) look like potential sail shredders. Boots?
I think they are smoother than they look. This hasn't been raised as a potential issue until now, but I'll ask the question.

Any bets on how long the queue at Mayflower will be when you arrive ? :)
Probably very small indeed, but any visitors would be welcome. We intend to have our boat-warming a few days after arrival in Salcombe.

just fantastic. Dream to reality.
Thank you :)

Absolutely smashing boat! Congratulations!

I'm curious as to the sail cloth choice though. I assume that the 3DL has a tafeta layer on both sides, as it doesn't look like a pure 3DL sail.
Even so, it's not going to have the longevity of a panelled sail, at what I can only assume is a fairly significant price premium.

So what was the killer reason for the 3DL from your perspective? The final few % of performance? The weight perhaps? Or just because they're so sexy!

Good question.

The main reason for choosing 3DL sails was performance. They are also around 20% lighter than a conventional panelled sail. They are the logical choice to partner a Hall Spars carbon rig.

There are important concessions to cruising though. There's taffeta on both sides which contains a UV and mildew inhibitor and a UV strip on the genoa.

You can read more about them here.

(and yes, they do look nice :D)

That makes sense! I'm used to seeing 3DL on race boats, hadn't realised they were marketing it to cruisers as well. Are you having downwind sails as well?

We have just one for now - a North G2 - made from Maxilite 150. It's quite large at 3007 sq ft so light winds only whilst we get used to handling it.

She looks just great! I hope you have many miles of great sailing! I am sure that you will love the feeling of raw power when she is out and fully on song. Sitting here I am just itching to get her out and moving......... She is gonna be a heluva boat.

But I'll still kick yer arse in my Bavaria 31.....

What a fantastic sight, all that top notch kit. I always think there is a bit of magic associated with knowing you've got the very best.

Nowhere near the same league, but I bought a dinghy recently with full carbon rig and North sails and the responsiveness of the rig and the pleasure gained from it made it totally worthwhile.

Anyway I'm sure you're going to have a lot of fun on Magnum!

Leaving for Bordeaux in the morning by car. Long drive (8 hours) but will be dropping off safety kit, books and galley equipment amongst other things.

The B&G install starts first thing Tuesday and is expected to take around a week to complete.

Also starting Tuesday is the installation of the removable staysail stay, running backstays and G2 rigging.

Ask me nicely and I may even post a few pics when I get back :D

Please will you post more pics asap?
Pretty, pretty please.

Was that nice enough?

Though I`m sure you`ll be posting more anyway:D;)
