Just a wee reminder that the first Scuttlebutt Cruise of 2009 will take place over the weekend beginning Friday the 24th of April.
We will meet at Cumbraes Watersports Centre sometime that evening. I am planning on providing a quiz that evening, with a nominal entry fee, and all proceeds going to charity.
It is possible to order food from a takeaway in Millport, and the Watersports Centre will provide crockery and cutlery.
On the Saturday we will try and go a little further afield - possibly Tarbert or Portavadie, but as always open to suggestions.
On previous occasions I have had lunch at Caladh Harbour on the Sunday.
So, who's in?
I will be there either on my boat or my brother's. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

The date is in the diary, although as previously I might forgo Cumbrae and RV on the Saturday.
Portavadie was hospitable last time and it would be good to see the new facilties building if its open. Tarbert has lost its alure despite, or perhaps because of the new pontoons.

My flight is booked! And my rig is tuned; let's see how much difference it makes. Hope Amaranthe makes it into the water; I want to see how much faster than you I am now! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

You appear to have one hull missing. Wasn't a Shearwater a Catamaran? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

(Looks really nice Ian, might see it in June?))

Apologies to Pete and all the other Clyde 'butters , but Mrs W and I will be unable to make this Cruise - in fact at the rate things are going we will be lucky to get FW launched in time for the Chentleman's the following weekend.

Hopefully there will be a second cruise later in the season. Fairwinds may have sailed far, but she has yet to sail the Clyde so who knows . . .

Can we buy a raffle ticket though?

Thats Hummingbird on her mooring as from today Pete, so hopefully wont miss this one.
As you already know I will have Markie with me, am meeting him at Gla airport on the fri, so should be there in time for some scran beforehand, "Hope you are a good cook Markie!
A word of advice to you all though, we noticed today while on the Cumbrae centre pontoon, it is covered in a thich and very slippery green slime which will land unsuspecting folk on their "Butts" very quickley, so be carefull.
Shearwater is looking smashing Ian, guess I will enjoy having a beer in her??? /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Not long to wait now.

I can cook Vesta Curries but my real talents lie in the area of washing up!

I'm going to pull out of the confirmed list guys.
Today we try digging a hole to drop the rudder to get the shaft out, because the engine hit the roof before there was enough clearance inwards yesterday.
IF we get the shaft out today, it goes to get cloned and then preassembled to the prop and coupling, then the prop goes away to get straightened, and we dig another hole again to re-assemble the good ship. Hopefully we'll have the coupling on hand by then as well.
I don't know how long the prop will take, but I can't guarantee to be on time, so effectively I've rendered mr&mrs Ash homeless. Can someone who deals with waifs and strays please offer help?

Apologies to those affected.
PS I am really hacked off about this as well!

Bill, sorry to hear of the hastle you are having with your boat, I am working all this wk but if there is anything I can do to help with Sahona, let me know.
I have a 2m length of 25mm A2 s/s shaft if it is any good to you, but would recommend using A4 (316) for a prop shaft.
I should be free a couple days next week if you are needing another pair of hands on the job.

Hi Bill

Don't get further stressed about us. There will be other cruises if it doesn't work out for us this time.

Get me a shout if I can be of help. Boat wellies are on the boat but I'm sure that I have a pair of black garden ones in house / shed.

I'm busy on Monday but available for the rest of the week.

I may have cursed the effects of the off centre propshaft on the Vega but if all boats were built that way it would make life easier when withdrawing the shaft.

If the worst comes to the worst, we could ram a wooden taper plug up the stern tube and sail her on and off the mooring..!!!
