When I had a boat which wintered in a canal, and therefore came under the BSS, the surveyor said, " Oh, I see you've got sight glasses".
I said, "Yes, this is a sea-going vessel, so I need to know how much fuel I have, but if you insist, I'll take them off at their valves". He said not to bother.
With tanks that taper down to the bottom, either a sight glass or a graduated dip stick will give much more accurate readings than an electrical float gauge.
