Hello all

I have been left with some really bad fender marks on the hull and have been advised to use acetone on them. Will this damage the gel coat?
Or what else would you use to leave the hull nice and shiny with no damage?

I have used acetone many times and never had issues. I have never noticed any damage to the gel coat but it does remove any wax on it. So it's a good idea to apply some new wax on the affected area.

I would start with a boat cleaner, such as Starbrite or International, and then move on to white spirit and possibly acetone, though I have never had to use the latter other than for specific tasks.

Starbrite Hull cleaner is excellent - designed for marks etc.
Magic erasers - excellent and even if they are very fine abrasive (and I think they are at a technical level)

What gives you that idea. They are a sponge used wet and don't remove any of the surface.
Someone suggests Vim and that is more of a cutting compound.

Copied and pasted, Google is your friend

It's melamine foam. Melamine mixed with a couple other components gives the sponge a microscopic sandpaper-like texture, making it a super effective abrasive cleaner. The magic eraser works on even the toughest cleaning jobs. Just wet with water, squeeze out excess water and erase! Check out these 10 clever ways to use a Magic Eraser sponge.
