Have very successfully used Seajet antifoul on F/glass hull moored on Hamble this year. Hull as clean as a whistle. However to look at the outdrive legs you would think we covered them with 'Best Barnacle Nosh'. We used some Italian stuff, from the Med right? should work?spray on, very thin in consistency. Looked great and at £12 a spray can, IF it worked would be ok. Dont really care what it costs, up to a point, just need something that WORKS.

We obviously can't use a copper based product. We aren't allowed to use TBT. So what works on drive legs? Does the Vxxxo stuff work?

So who has clean legs thus far into the season?

ours look not too bad, but we are on a drying mooring so do quite well at avoiding the nasty barnacles, we used some international brush on paint for the legs and they seem to wipe clean very easy, much much better than the untreated props!

No chance, have had to clean the leg every weekend to keep the little blighters at bay. Even when antifouled when first bought the boat - it all came off in a couple of outings. Not much you can do - unless others have found different.

Craned mine out for new props only to find the little blighters actually growing on the anti-foul paint. Didn't ant-foul the props - big mistake! Hull had some barnacles on it after painting with Tri-Lux. Damned expensive and I expected it to work better for £80 a tin!!!

Going to try Jotun next year, it seems to work on my mates Shetland.

Thanks guys.
Looks like, so far, we all have the same problem.

I have used Jotun and it was good, but so far since we lost TBT the one I mentioned above has been the most effective. I am just fed up that nobody seems to do a decent leg paint. Nobody has commented on Vxxxo paint yet. Either it costs so much nobody has tried it or nobody with experience of it has responded. I will come and have a look later.

Nothing beats a nylon brush and a quick dip in the water Paul. Obviousl not the preferred choice during winter.

Well Dom, I dont think it is a problem until May when the water warms. I just resent paying good money for things that dont work.
Think I will allocate a stiff brush for the very purpose.
Cheers, Paul

I use prop-o-drev. No barnacles just a bit of weed cos havn't used the boat for about 8 weeks. The weed just wipes off. Not cheap though £22 a tin. Need 2 tins to do both legs and shields

I moor in fresh water, and go out to play in the sea. There doesnt seem to be much wildlife that copes with both....See if you can find a swimming pool to leave your boat in!
