Classic Speed Boat Restoration

The boats nearly complete! Just wiring and a NAME left!! any suggestions????

Installed a battery master switch which just fits and hides behind the rear seat backrest.

Also put a foam pad on the back rest.

A mock up of the dashboards now completed, just needs a few more coats of varnish and fitting in properly and then the wiring can be completed. You can see the crazing on the windscreen, hence why i need a new one!

I was hoping to get her on the water on bank hoilday monday, but i now can't get my towbar fitted untill next week, so that will have to be postponed. But i need a NAME!! :)

Most towbars are plug and play these days, a few bolts, plug the electrics into the rear light cluster for which a split loom is supplied and job done.
Looking great, bet you can't wait!

I was going to fit the towbar myself, but my girlfriends godparents own a garage so I thought i'd let them do it. The rear lights and bumper have to come off to fit the towbar and the wiring isnt a single plug, its individual wires with scotch clips (which arent great). So i thought i'd save myself some hassel!

But yes, i cant wait to get her on the water after two long years! :D

Ive been watching this thread, lately have missed bits, just wanted to write and say what a b!"£y f!"k$%g great job you have done. The boat looks top notch mint, do you realy want to get it wet I think a large glass case is a better fit, dirty sea water is not good for brilliantly clean hull.

Great job, beatifull boat you have.

Nice to see the grain pellets lined up ;) Nothing worse than having them out of line:eek:

Thanks guys, the towbars now fitted to the car so just waiting on some nice weather and some good tide times to get her on the water for the first time in 2years!! :D

Did some general tidying and small jobs today. Repaired the clamp threads on the engine with helicoils, screwed in the dashboard for good with ammeter, switches and stereo, put two new wheel hubs on the trailer. Mounted the engine on the boat to test the cable steering and controls and cut a piece of carpet for the floor of the boat which now needs the edges to be bound. Here's some photos....

Superb, you must be very pleased with the result. She looks great.

Did you even choose red steering cables? If so you'll be giving JFM a run for his money on the boat OCD front.

Can't wait to see pics of her in the water.

Did you choose a name yet?

From the colour scheme perhaps "Tutti Fruitti" or "Rhubarb n Custard" :-)

Thanks!! :D

Those red teleflex cables are for the engine controls, and their actually the originals and 40 years old! But yes, if i were to buy new ones they would be red! :D

As for the name i'm thinking Rhubarb and Custard! It was the very first name my girlfriend thought of the first time she saw her!It goes with the colour scheme well!

Hi Chris, well done on your project, you have done a good job. Just a comment on the 18HP motor, certain of those engines had exactly the same block for 18HP, 22HP and 25HP, the only differences were in the fuelling. It was some 30 odd years back when I was involved with them, but I have a feeling either the removal of a strangulation plate, or fitting of a different carrburretor could give you a 25% power increase. That is not going to set the water alight, but if funds are limited it may help you to investigate this area. If you do go down this route, an increase in prop pitch will obviously be required.
Good luck with the boat, and your Degree course.

Stop!

You've forgotten something!!

The boat had its maiden voyage on Sunday at the bottom of Portsmouth Harbour, by Port Solent. I shall soon be a member of Portchester Sailing Club again, so will be able to use their slip in future.

She ran extremely well, the engine wasn't temperamental, which is a plus and she got up on the plane very quickly with two people on board, which again was unexpected due to the engine being only 18hp and the weight we have added to her in the rebuild.

I pottered around the bottom of the harbour for a while not far from the shore to run the engine in, and then opened her up a few times, never exceeding the 10knot speed limit obviously :D (Not that I had any idea of my actual speed). So here are a few photos of her maiden voyage. Oh and threes also a YouTube video below of her running. I Apologise for my sisters screaming in advanced. (It wasn’t that scary) :)

(sorry for the screaming) Plus theres a few more videos on my youtube channel.
