Yep - I've been using a check list for the lat 15 years.
It is a single page "tick box" checklist.
A few years ago, I added a second page on the back.
The second page lists all the sea cocks, glands and fire extinguishers,
I tick to check each item - after closing sea cocks etc.
Things like emptying the holding tanks and setting switched etc (all DC off - battery charger on etc)
The front page is dated and refers to the back page.
Last item is "Lock door when leaving".
I then fold the list and put it in my pocket.
At home, I file it with all the previous ones.

Why - you might ask.

Well, if an insurance company ever needed proof that we have been checking/maintaining I can produce the list.

I don’t use a list. I do a walk around before leaving and missed jobs are visible.

Other issues are more front of mind : How to protect the boat from theft. Diesel siphoning (it happened twice) and theft in general. CCTV or an advanced monitoring system. Should the power be connected or not. How to look after batteries best. How to alarm, alert and protect from water ingress. How often to send a diver in before growth gets impossible. Frost protection, mould and humidity damage and mitigation etc.

Thank you all, I shall make mine up as a combination of these.
Just one other question:

Is there an easy way of converting these lift and twist catches to key locks?
I have quite a lot of valuable bits in there and although I’m not worried for the imminent break, in the longer term it would be nice to have better security
I could fit a separate lock but that means drilling holes or some sort of remote solenoid system but that leaves it vulnerable to battery failure

Here is mine, but for a sailboat

  1. Write up log book;
  2. Record the voltage, Amp hours used and generated, percentage full the batteries are and enter this is in the log book;
  3. Set AIS to stealth mode;
  4. Close all hatches;
  5. Pull water sensor and replace with blanking plate;
  6. Turn off gaz under cooker;
  7. Close engine sea cock;
  8. Close sea cock under galley sink;
  9. Close sea cock under heads wash hand basin;
  10. Close both sea cocks for heads;
  11. Switch off all electrics on switch panel;
  12. Turn Master electrics switch to off;
  13. Check that all keys, phones are in the go-ashore bag;
  14. Pick up rubbish bag;
  15. Turn off at gaz bottle;
  16. Unplug and stow Shore Power lead under transom seat;
  17. Close and lock hatch;
  18. Tie sail tie round the Genoa; and
  19. Check lines.​

Very important to remember your car keys..

Some years ago we used to have a mooring in Gosport but we laid our boat up at Emsworth for the winter.

The first time, we drove to Gosport, parked the car, put the car keys in the usual place on the boat, then sailed to Emsworth, and had her lifted out.

Then we got the bus back to Portsmouth, crossed over on the ferry to Gosport and went to get the car.

You can guess the rest . . . . . :(

Life is too short for making lists for leaving the boat.
I can remember what to do without a written list.
Yep, the list I posted back there isn't written down anywhere,it's a mental list, I just remember what I need to do.

I think it's a bit of a hassle to have an actual physical paper or digital list and go through ticking things off as you do them.

I thought it might be helpful to add my mental list to this thread to help the op.
