Chartering regulations

I'm thinking about a little chartering next summer to offset a few of the costs of running the boat but have ended up completely confused about what needs to be done to get the boat ready.

The boat is British registered but lying in Mallorca, so....
1. Do I have to conform to UK regulations or Spanish (or both or neither) and what are these regulations?
2. Does the boat need to be MCA coded (got a copy of this and looks completely confusing!)?
3. Does it make a difference whether the boat is skippered or not?
4. Preumably there is no difference whether I do it through an agent or directly?

At the moment it's looking like a lot of effort and complexity to work all this out but a bit of extra income is tempting!

I wd speak to Lisa at Med Charter.

Expect the boat to get a bit twanged if you charter -odd scrape, a lost fender, mooring ropes shagged, suntan oil means the cushion covers need dry cleaning.

I would use an agent - he'll have high-speed fixing bods on hand to ensure that the charter proceeeds smoothlyish if theres a problem and so on.

Usually, a 45 footer will be bareboat, not skippered, cos no room for skipper to sleep. It will get less bashed with skipper, but all the same applies about the grime on sunpads. A skipper won't clean the boat very much.

I've been looking at the same thing myself. I've been told that you definitely need to get the boat MCA or equivalent coded and the cost will be around £2k for a 40 footer. Bareboat or skipper, agent or not, there's no difference. Being in Spain, I guess you have to comply with Spanish law but I dont think this has any major effect on the preparation of the boat
As tcm says, best to speak to a charter company to find out
