Has anyone had much sucess with chart plotter software for windows mobile devices? Can anyone reccomend the best software / charts / solution for a chart plotter on a windows mobile device / PDA?

Regards

I run Oziexplorer 2 on my Windows Mobile 5.0 based Dell Axim X51v PDA using scanned copies of my paper charts.

I find it useful for passage planning when at home. However, the size of the screen and its performance in daylight make it of little value as a chartplotter when underway.

I use memeory map/ maptech and you can port your maptech charts across to a PDA, in my case a Compaq Ipaq with a Navman sleeve

Second Maptech - Chart Navigator has a PC version that can be downloaded onto a PDA in cut down form. I use it on my Windows Mobile MDA phone. It is usable, but agree small scren size can be limiting, as can direct sunlight visibility on my phone screen

Okay, not a mobile user and not sure what OziExplorer 2 is but I have been using the development version of OziExplorer for many years now on my Dell notebook PC on the chartable. With GPS and AIS input it is an invaluable complement to my Garmin plotter in the wheelhouse and its general functionality and screen clarity with the moving map option enabled is superb. To date, only the development version has support for AIS.

However, having said that, I do wonder when the development version will be finally released, it has been many years in the making.

Thanks for that heads-up - I'll watch that space and download before I return to the boat in April just to get the very latest.

However, I see it is still only another development version - but that's what I'm running now and I note from the details that AIS has progressed to giving CPA and TCPA data.

Des Newman did e-mail me about a year ago when I asked about progress, that he had returned to working on the standard program after completing the CE version.
