hi there as some of you may know my boat sunk last year and ive been continually doing it up since the engine was done by a mechanic who advised me to drain oil and leg and change for new stuff again as there was emulcification (i think thats how its spelt), anyway after buying the vacuum pump draining both the sterndrive (yellow liquid) and the engine (green) ive not replaced with the type asked for. so what now do i check to see if it's still sort off milky what if it is? it is running fine ive also changed the oil filter (another nightmare) anyway as ive said the end is near ive done all electrics switch panels upholstry (professionally done) lights etc done myself re painted anti fouled and dim bloody nervous its goiung to all go wrong when i put it in the water i have the feeling ive missed something major and as ive been so busy trying to do 537 things i overlooked something. so please anyone put my mind at rest im beggining to think if there is still some emulcification and i change it again would i be right in thinking it would be a cracked case or bore thingy. when i start it in my drive i feed the inlet with a hose. when i tryed to connect it from the inlet and let it suck out from a bucket it didnt suck water in it's only putting water out through the exhaust when im feeding with a flow from the garden hose. but as i said it does sound as if it's running nice.

thanks in advance.
cheers again for all your help.
do you know what im overlooking????

It may well not suck water from a bucket as normally the pump is pretty close to the outside water level so doesn't have to lift very far. If you are unsure, change the impellor now.

If you can run it a bit great as there is bound to be some water left in it somewhere, I'd advocate running up for a bit and then changing the oil again once you've got it heated up properly. Run it in gear as well if you can, you might need to keep a hose on the leg so it doesn't run hot, and change the oil in that after it has been nicely churning up. Otherwise, good luck.

I agree with Clive, installing a new impeller is no big job and if the old is good, you can use it later.

As said the engine and leg should be run up to operating temperatures the check the oil every few minutes to start with ok run to next check time, if all goes well no problems, if however you find some emulsified oil shut down and drain off when still hot. the bad news is you will also need new oil filters.

Hoping you get all good results.

Andavagoodweekend......

If you have emulsified oil in the leg, that will not be from sinking. The bellows at the top of the drive, to the engine might be worn out, should be replaced every two years. The
other ,more likely, problem will be the oil seals on the prop shaft. Both are doable by a competent DIY,er. If you phone Keypart, they know what they are about and will assist
by e-mailing diagram to you. The engine, if the impeller is broken when you get to it,
the missing bits will be in the end of the oil cooler on the port side of the engine(from front). As for the oil in the engine, if you have changed the oil and it has gone milky again, run the engine at norm temp, the oil will eventually clear. At this point, drain the still hot oil, either suck out or drain, and replace the oil and filter. Should then be O. K.
PM me if you want any other advice or Keypart details.
