Is it OK to do this cold or should the engine be warm as with engine oil?
Thanks,

my manual makes no mention of the oil needing to be warm, although that may make it easier for your pump.Is it OK to do this cold or should the engine be warm as with engine oil?

I can vouch for that, I made the mistake of vacuum pumping the gearbox oil cold, it took hours!Warm oil is less viscous, so flows much more easily. If it is removed by draining, it will drain much more completely if it is warm, As Plum says, if it has to be pumped out, its a whole lot easier with warm oil. Really cold engine oil can be quite difficult to suck out!
