chain re galvanised? Glasgow?

I assume it is not economic to recover the zinc in solution that is removed in re-galvanising?

Acid used for stripping old galv often ends up about 50g/l Zinc chloride, and 125-150 g/l iron chloride mixed, and about 1-2 % hydrochloric acid, water balance.
As yet it isn't economic to recover the zinc from this. Spent acid without Zn, and which has about 150g/l iron chloride is useful for water treatment plants.
As disposal costs, transport costs etc rise, the recovery will one day become economic, the chemistry isn't difficult, just doesn't yet pay.

On spinning chain.
If there's interested party involved (like when I get my own chain done), then its possible to do chain manually without a spinner. It has to be shaken vigorously as it emerges from the molten zinc, to shake the surplus zinc off, and prevent "welding" of the links together.

With three of the four directors in our company having a yachting interest, this happens sometimes!

I also have an anchor that is painted so i presume the easiest way to remove the paint so i can then galv would be to burn it off?

Very useful info-knew the dipping tank was down A96 towards Aberdeen-Elgin-not too far.
The bit about cleaning is interesting-someone who should have known better misinformed me.
Just out of interest how big are these facilities?
When a friend and I came up with the idea of hot dipping Landrover chassis back in the early 1980s the tank we used near Rotherham could take a long wheel base Landrover Chassis.I know the one in Elgin can take 20 foot long sections of structural steel tube and trailer chassis.

Ok thanks some good info there i have 2 chains and some other bits so could do the minimum order
which one would you recommend in Glasgow? maybe easiest as id be passing through on my way down south?

If you find that you want to make up weight for economy of transport and/or galvanising, my chain & anchor that needs it will be at Crinan soon, sort of on the way to Glasgow from Campbelltown. Gordon

won't re-galvanise now?

My local boatyard said today that the the three galvanisers in Scotland won't re-galvanise now. The reason suggested was that they were fed up with too many complaints about the zinc sticking in clumps to the chain.
