Well, Rosie Swale took one around the horn with her little kids.

I have some friends who bought on in teh UK a few years back to go across the atlantic, up the US coast and back to the UK, a trip that they planned would take them 2 years. I tis now 5 years later and they are still out there cruising.

Old boats but if she is still sound, you won't go wrong.

the oceanic is a safe boat, not fast by any stretch of the imagination, but then you wont find afast multi under forty feet thats got all its cruising gear on,the main problem with the oceanic is seperation of the glass from the plywood decks/coachroof, i have seen it on most oceanics i have seen. the windows tend to leak a lot, just cut out the seals with a knife and fillet with 5200, i did mine just before i left the UK in 96 and i now have two windows to redo, so it lasts a fair while, and saves you a lot of money, if you look at an oceanic and the rig is tight, check the hulls are plumb, decks are not popping etc, the boat is excellent as a first multi because you can get away with things on this boat that you never could on a newer cat owing to the short mast. the real saving grace with the oceanic is the full standing headroom it really makes all the difference, finding one for sale can be a problem, i got mine through one of the multihull brokers and i think its worth while. if i can be of anymore assistance e me at fareal@ batelnet.bs
