car Topable dinghies?

Slightly older than a Topper, the Minisail dinghy was designed specifically for car-topping. If you fancy a Laser but the primary consideration is that it is even easier to lift single-handed, this one would be worth looking out for.

It is very reassuring if you mis-judge something & scrunch it a bit to know it really doesn't make any difference!

I guess that's how pram bows were invented ! :)

I tried a Minisail a long time ago, maybe it was my lack of experience but it didn't seem to sail anything like as well as the later Topper.

I think the Topper is a very well designed boat, though can be a pain to tack in strong winds, really only suits youngsters or small adults and has a habit of breaking the boom at the kicker fastening point.

There was a souped up version of the Minisail with a sliding seat, the Minisprint; I got the impression both ( built in grp ) were significantly heavier than the plastic Topper - the early Toppers were grp too but seem to have disappeared, unsurprisingly.

I buy a Mondeo diesel off e-bay every few years (as the old one dies) specifically as my "work-horse" for towing, load carrying & general knockabout use. It is very reassuring if you mis-judge something & scrunch it a bit to know it really doesn't make any difference!

Top thinking, I use the same ethos for my wife's car (SAAB 9-5), run it into the ground, strip it for parts and buy another for 3-4K ;) They last her 6-7 years. I'm going to get one for myself as a daily hack in a few weeks for 1.5K as they are now really silly money - no DPF filters, no major electronics, sensors etc no diagnostic issues..... KISS ;)
