I am taking my boat to the Canaries this August, and planning to leave her there for 3 months and returning to UK, before venturing further afield in December. Has anyone got any experience of doing this? I am keen to hear of any recommendations in terms of marinas that are secure and are likely to have room for a yacht (in water or ashore) for 3 months.

If you are thinking of Tenerife, then Radazul, six miles South of Santa Cruz, is an excellent wee marina, very secure and sheltered.

For details, see Noonsite:

Radazul is the only one I have any personal experience of. If you are thinking of one of the other islands, then again check on Noonsite for details. (An amazing website!)

You might try the island of La Gomera - nice marina with yacht club in large cave! Ferry terminal next door so you can get to airport on Tenerife.Try the Cruising Association for more info.Worth joining as they may well have an Honorary Local Representative who can give you accurate local knowledge.

I am doing the same. I e-mailed a couple of marinas and got one reply from Peurto Calero on Lanzarote. It is very secure and I was there 10 years ago. Perhaps we can share our investigative effort to find the best marina at the best price?

For a 13.5m x 4m yacht I was quoted 18.63 Euros/day + 5% tax and if paid 90 days in advance it would be 13.97 Euros/day + 5% tax. This was for a marina berth with water and electricity.

I also e-mailed Mogan on Gran Canaria but they said they would reply in a months time with availability and price.

These two are probably at the higher end of the prices I would guess.
